Head Muhammad wala bridge shut amid rising flood

Published on: September 2, 2025 12:51 PM

The Head Muhammad Wala bridge in Muzaffargarh has been completely closed for all kinds of traffic today due to dangerously high flood levels in the River Chenab. Authorities confirmed the step was taken as a safety measure, since rising water levels posed a serious risk to both commuters and the bridge structure.

Furthermore, officials advised citizens traveling towards Multan to use the Chenab bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays and ensure smooth traffic flow. This decision was made to keep travelers safe while ensuring transport connectivity between the regions is not fully disrupted during the ongoing flood emergency.

In addition, police personnel along with teams from other concerned departments have been deployed at the site to monitor the situation and regulate movement. Their presence aims to prevent accidents, maintain discipline among road users, and manage any potential emergencies caused by the unexpected floodwater rise.

Meanwhile, a breaching point has been established at Head Muhammad Wala to divert the excessive water flow and reduce mounting pressure on the river banks. This measure is considered crucial in minimizing flood damage, as it allows water to safely spread in a controlled direction instead of harming populated areas nearby.

Moreover, the precautionary closure of the bridge reflects the seriousness of the situation and the government’s active approach to safeguarding citizens. Officials urged people to cooperate with instructions, follow alternative routes, and remain vigilant as river water levels continue to rise and pose threats across low-lying regions.

Lastly, emergency teams are on standby, prepared to respond quickly in case of worsening conditions in Muzaffargarh and surrounding areas. Authorities assured the public that timely updates will be provided, while safety measures will stay in place until the flood situation improves considerably.
