Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s local leadership, contractors, and some bureaucrats, accusing them of jointly destroying his hometown Sialkot, vowing not to forgive them even till his grave.
Sharing a video on social media, Asif wrote that the voice in the clip belonged to PTI leader Umar Farooq Meyer, who highlighted these issues during the caretaker government, predicting the damage years earlier.
The minister stated that this project was launched in 2019 under PTI’s government, adding that Umar Farooq Meyer had already warned about its failure and even named Dar Brothers.
Asif further said that ZKB, the main contractor, is a powerful figure in parliament and a well-known contractor. He recalled meeting them first in 2013 when he was the water and power minister.
He alleged that PTI’s local leadership, ZKB contractors, and several bureaucrats worked together to destroy Sialkot, stressing once again that he would never leave them unchallenged.
Quoting another post, Khawaja Asif mocked the situation, saying that even floods seem selective, sparing 200-year-old British bridges while sweeping away the poorly built projects of so-called patriotic contractors.
