Continuous heavy rain has worsened flooding in Punjab, leaving thousands stranded without electricity as the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers overflow, submerging villages, destroying crops, and threatening urban areas with further devastation.
In Jhang, Multan, Chiniot, and Vehari, hundreds of villages remain underwater while crops on thousands of acres are destroyed, forcing families to spend nights under open skies without proper shelter or relief.
Meanwhile, in Multan’s Shujaabad tehsil, 140 villages have been inundated as nearly 800,000 cusecs of water flows through the Chenab, raising fears of breaches that could worsen the already alarming situation.
Likewise, floodwaters in Narowal, Nankana Sahib, and Chichawatni are rapidly advancing toward urban settlements after embankments gave way, with schools in Pakpattan and Arifwala closed indefinitely due to safety concerns.
In Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, where boats are the only means of transport, private boatmen are charging exorbitant fares while over 500,000 acres of farmland lies devastated by raging floodwaters.
Authorities warn the situation may worsen as dams near full capacity and flood levels rise at critical points, while Sindh braces for displacement of 1.65 million people along the Indus River banks.
