The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) informed the National Assembly’s Interior Committee that it has seized 1453 kilograms of drugs supplied to educational institutions. Over 300 suspects involved in drug trafficking have been arrested so far. Officials also busted a group selling drugs through social networks.
During a committee meeting chaired by Raja Khurram Nawaz, Brigadier Imran Ali briefed members on the ongoing crackdown. The chairman expressed concern over the large supply of drugs in Islamabad’s colleges and universities and demanded clarity on their source. He noted that drug dealers have become so powerful that they even killed a local councilor.
Brigadier Imran Ali said the operations were launched on orders from the Prime Minister and Field Marshal to target drugs in educational settings. The ANF has arrested more than 300 suspects and seized over 1453 kg of narcotics from these areas.
Officials also highlighted challenges like lack of scanners and capacity issues. They revealed a gang using social media to sell drugs was also dismantled. So far this year, 19 drug gangs have been arrested, and assets worth 7 billion rupees have been frozen.
The committee vowed to support ANF’s efforts to eliminate drug trafficking, especially in schools and colleges, to protect youth from the growing menace.
