KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has threatened to jam the entire city, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, if the party’s demands are not met. After meeting the Sindh governor, the JI leader in his speech assured the protesters that the party would not quit its movement until the citizens got their due rights. “The Sindh governor has assured me of resolving the issues within 15 days.” He demanded the Sindh government to investigate and take action against those who opened fire on their party members and tortured them on Shahrah-e-Faisal during their peaceful protest on March 31. He said that the party had launched a “One Million Petition” movement against K-Electric and would file it within 15 days. “Ever citizen of the city is a victim of K-Electric, therefore we have decided to continue our protest until the people get their due rights.” He complained that they had been protesting for the last four days outside the Governor’s House, but no leader of any political party had come there to ask about their issues. “The Sindh government is protesting against load shedding in Sindh. Is Karachi not part of Sindh?” he asked. He said that the JI had protested against the privatisation of K-Electric and when its workers were forcefully laid off. The party leadership announced that if their demands were not met within 15 days, they would be back on the roads. Hafiz Naeem said that the party’s sit-in was not a political one; instead they wanted to save the masses from KE’s maltreatment.
