China urges stronger security ties with Pakistan, Afghanistan

Published on: August 21, 2025 11:13 AM

China has called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to boost trilateral cooperation on security and development. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the appeal during a three-way meeting held in Kabul on Wednesday. He said the countries should deepen mutual trust and improve coordination at all levels. According to China’s foreign ministry, Wang urged stronger exchanges between the three nations.

Wang emphasized the need to improve security mechanisms and fight terrorism together. He called for better law enforcement cooperation and a joint effort to stop cross-border terror activities. Wang said China would support the core interests of both Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also opposed foreign interference and warned against threats to any country’s sovereignty. The minister stressed that unity is key to regional peace.

China shares borders with both Pakistan and Afghanistan, making security cooperation vital. The China-Pakistan border stretches about 596 kilometers, while the border with Afghanistan is around 92 kilometers. These regions are sensitive due to their proximity to disputed territories and mountainous terrain. China has growing concerns over terrorism and cross-border instability near its western frontier. That’s why it sees stronger trilateral ties as essential.

In addition to security, Wang encouraged greater development and economic cooperation. He proposed expanding trade, investment, and regional connectivity. The three countries also agreed to push forward joint infrastructure projects, including extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Wang said stronger economic links would help bring long-term peace to the region. Cooperation on both security and development would benefit all three nations.

The meeting signals China’s growing role in regional diplomacy and security. By backing Afghanistan and Pakistan, China aims to protect its interests and build regional stability. The message from Beijing is clear: peace and development must go hand in hand. Wang concluded by urging both nations to stay united against terrorism and continue working closely with China.
