Over the past three years, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has dismissed 51 employees for colluding with human smugglers, while 56 officers have been arrested, the Interior Ministry informed the Senate.
The ministry stated that 21 cases have been registered against FIA personnel involved in human smuggling, with 16 of these cases currently under trial in various courts across the country.
Last year, following the tragic Greece boat incident that claimed the lives of several Pakistani citizens, 41 FIA employees were removed for facilitating illegal overseas travel, highlighting the agency’s internal accountability measures.
The Senate was informed that FIA officers implicated in the Greece incident had their names added to a passport control list to prevent further illegal facilitation, ensuring stricter monitoring of outgoing travelers.
Sources revealed that suspicious FIA employees were stationed across major airports, including 19 at Faisalabad, 3 at Sialkot, 2 at Lahore, 2 at Islamabad, and 5 at Quetta, reflecting widespread internal involvement.
The Interior Ministry emphasized that these actions demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to tackling human smuggling and corruption within its law enforcement agencies, ensuring safer borders and accountability for public servants involved in illegal activities.
