Israeli airstrikes continued in Gaza over the weekend, killing an entire Palestinian family of eight in the Zeitoun neighborhood near Gaza City. According to Arab media, the victims included a mother, father, and their six young children, all buried beneath the rubble of their home after a direct hit.
This devastating attack adds to the rising civilian death toll as Israel escalates its military operations in Gaza. Witnesses described scenes of horror as rescue teams pulled out the lifeless bodies, many of them children, from the collapsed structure. Local health officials say hospitals are overwhelmed and running dangerously low on medical supplies.
The same day, Israeli forces also targeted a tent used by journalists in Gaza City, killing five members of the press. Among the dead were Al Jazeera reporters Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqa, along with cameramen Mohammed Zahir, Mohammed Noufal, and Mumin Aliwa. They were reportedly covering the aftermath of earlier strikes when the attack occurred.
Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, accused Israel of deliberately targeting journalists to prevent the world from seeing the full extent of the destruction. “They want to silence those who show the truth,” he said. He warned that Israel may be preparing for a larger ground or air offensive in the days ahead.
Calls for an international investigation are growing, as human rights organizations demand accountability for what they describe as collective punishment and potential war crimes. With Gaza’s civilian infrastructure crumbling and thousands displaced, the humanitarian crisis is deepening by the hour.
