Monsoon rains will return to Punjab on August 13, triggering the seventh spell of heavy rainfall this season. In response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood advisory. Authorities expect rising water levels in major rivers across the province. The advisory highlights the risk of flooding in low-lying areas and riverbanks. Residents are urged to stay alert and follow safety instructions.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, heavy rains may cause water levels to rise in the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers. Tributaries and nearby streams could also overflow. These conditions increase the chances of flash floods in vulnerable regions. The forecast warns of heavy and scattered rainfall throughout the province. Emergency teams have been placed on standby.
Commissioners, deputy commissioners, and district authorities have been instructed to remain fully alert. PDMA directed local officials to monitor river flows closely. The agency also urged early evacuation of homes and livestock near riverbanks. Special attention is being given to flood-prone districts. Preparations for relief and rescue operations are already underway.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia stressed the importance of timely evacuations. He said homes, animals, and belongings near rivers must be moved to safer ground. He also banned swimming in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds during this period. The public has been told to avoid risky areas and stay indoors during heavy rains.
For any emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129. Authorities are working to reduce risks and ensure public safety. People are urged to cooperate with rescue teams. With timely precautions, the province aims to minimize the impact of the coming monsoon spell.
