Islamabad to get 50 new sports grounds, complexes

Published on: August 10, 2025 12:21 PM

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to build 25 cricket grounds and 25 football grounds across Islamabad, along with several modern sports complexes in multiple sectors. The initiative aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle, promote sports, and provide quality recreational spaces for residents, especially the youth. The decision was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters.

Randhawa said the project reflects the authority’s strong commitment to improving public facilities and creating more spaces for physical activity. He added that the new sports grounds and complexes will be state-of-the-art, ensuring residents have access to modern and high-quality sports infrastructure. The CDA believes these developments will also enhance the capital’s beauty and strengthen community engagement.

As part of a broader development plan, the CDA will also focus on upgrading major roads, constructing new underpasses to reduce traffic congestion, restoring green spaces, and improving park lighting. The plan includes installing modern streetlights across the city, ensuring safety and accessibility for residents during evening activities. The sports facilities will be placed in strategic locations across different sectors to ensure easy access for all communities.

In addition to new construction, existing football and cricket grounds will be upgraded to meet modern standards. Paddle courts will be introduced, and pedestrian bridges in sports and recreational areas will be improved for safer and more convenient movement. These steps are designed to support both casual players and professional athletes in the capital.

Randhawa assured that transparency and quality will be maintained throughout the entire project to deliver the best results for the public. He emphasised that the CDA’s focus is not just on building facilities but also on creating lasting recreational spaces that will benefit Islamabad’s residents for years to come.
