Pakistan has welcomed the historic peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, signed under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump. The agreement was finalized during a White House summit, ending nearly 40 years of hostility between the South Caucasus neighbors. Trump hosted the signing ceremony alongside Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. “It’s a long time — 35 years — they fought, and now they’re friends,” Trump said proudly.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the development on social media, calling it the “dawn of a new era of peace and cooperation.” He congratulated President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on reaching this milestone. Shehbaz said the agreement reflects foresight and wisdom in pursuing a peaceful future. He expressed hope that this spirit of dialogue would inspire other regions facing long-running conflicts. Pakistan, he added, proudly stands with its brotherly nation, Azerbaijan.

The peace deal also marks a major diplomatic win for the Trump administration. It includes plans to normalize relations and boost trade between the two countries. The U.S. played a key role in bringing both sides to the table, sidelining Moscow’s influence in the region. Trump said both countries had agreed to open travel, business, and diplomatic ties. The agreement is expected to reshape the future of the South Caucasus.
The decades-old conflict began in the late 1980s over Nagorno-Karabakh, a region inside Azerbaijan but mostly populated by ethnic Armenians. In 2023, Azerbaijan regained full control of the territory, leading to a mass exodus of ethnic Armenians to Armenia. The new peace treaty signals the end of years of war, bloodshed, and mistrust. Both sides have committed to peaceful coexistence and regional integration.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the agreement, calling it a “truly historic moment.” He praised President Aliyev’s leadership and thanked Trump for facilitating the deal. Dar extended congratulations to his Azerbaijani counterpart and wished both countries lasting peace. He said the breakthrough should lead to a future built on stability and hope. Pakistan reaffirmed its full support for peace in the Caucasus.
Today marks a truly historic moment as Azerbaijan and Armenia take a decisive step towards resolving a bitter conflict that has lasted for over three decades.
I commend the vision and resolve shown by President Ilham Aliyev @presidentaz in steering this process, and deeply…
