Bangladesh wants to boost trade with Pakistan to meet its rising industrial and energy needs. The country is especially interested in importing Pakistani coal and limestone. These materials are essential for Bangladesh’s power plants and soda ash factories. The talks were held between Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan. Both sides agreed to strengthen trade in several sectors.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Khan shared his observations from recent visits to Pakistan’s industrial hubs. He said that local business chambers showed great interest in working with Bangladesh. The discussions focused on energy and logistics, with a plan to support deeper industrial connections. The Bangladeshi side emphasized the urgent need for raw materials, particularly limestone from Sindh and coal from local mines.
Agriculture also came up as a key topic. Bangladesh wants to export pineapples to Pakistan, while Pakistan hopes to export mangoes soon. However, the mango deal still needs final technical approvals. Both sides saw opportunities in food security, and agreed to ease visa processes to help businesspeople travel more easily.
Textiles and halal-certified meat products were also discussed. Pakistan sees potential in exporting high-quality meat and mineral resources. The two countries also plan to address transport challenges and develop smooth trade routes. These steps will help cut delays and lower costs for businesses on both sides.
The meeting ended on a hopeful note. Minister Jam Kamal said the partnership could benefit the entire region. He stressed that closer cooperation in trade, energy, and logistics can create a strong economic bond. Both countries promised to set up sector-specific working groups and move quickly on trade agreements.
