Field Marshal Munir wins praise for boosting Pakistan-US ties

Published on: August 4, 2025 4:07 PM

British magazine The Economist has praised Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for reshaping Pakistan-US relations. The magazine highlighted his historic meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. This meeting marked the start of a new diplomatic era in the region. The article noted that Munir’s efforts have brought fresh energy to bilateral ties. It also pointed to shifting US policies toward India as a sign of this change.

The article emphasized Munir’s firm stance on Kashmir, calling it a key part of his diplomatic success. It also mentioned the US imposing a 25% tariff on Indian goods, linking it to Munir’s influence. Furthermore, it praised the growing cooperation between Pakistan and the US in counterterrorism, trade, and Middle East policy. These developments have caused concern in New Delhi. This shows how Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are reshaping regional dynamics.

According to The Economist, Asim Munir’s initiatives have made the US consider selling armored vehicles and night-vision equipment to Pakistan. This is a major step forward in defense cooperation between the two countries. The article also described Munir’s role in promoting dialogue with India. However, it noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains a major obstacle to peace talks. Despite this, Munir’s diplomatic efforts continue to build bridges.

The report underlined that the improved Pakistan-US relationship is based on mutual consultations on security and economic issues. It pointed out that this warming of ties is unsettling for India. The article credited Munir’s diplomatic skills for enhancing Pakistan’s global standing. It also encouraged further efforts to stabilize the region through dialogue. Pakistan’s approach now includes a strong balance of defense and diplomacy.

Field Marshal Asim Munir is playing a crucial role in Pakistan’s foreign policy. His leadership is helping to create new opportunities for cooperation with the US. This progress reflects a shift toward a more balanced and pragmatic regional diplomacy. Although challenges remain, Munir’s efforts are opening doors for peace. Pakistan looks set to strengthen its position on the global stage.
