WhatsApp has started testing a new feature that allows users to share status updates directly inside group chats. This update is now available to Android beta users through version 2.25.22.11. It gives group members the ability to post updates visible only to people within the same group.
Unlike regular status updates that are shared with selected contacts, this new option lets users create posts straight from the group’s information screen. These updates are automatically visible to all members of the group, making communication easier and more focused.
This feature is especially useful for active groups where important information can easily get lost in chats. By posting directly to the group’s status, users can highlight announcements without needing to tag or notify each person separately.
Group-specific status updates will disappear after 24 hours, just like regular ones. This ensures that updates remain relevant and that group conversations are not cluttered with outdated posts.
To view the group status, users can either tap the group icon or visit the general Updates tab. These group updates will be clearly marked and only accessible to members of that particular group.
Currently, WhatsApp is testing this feature with the public. Early users have already begun seeing signs of the update on their apps. As always, WhatsApp has confirmed that these posts are end-to-end encrypted, keeping user privacy and security fully protected.
