Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, visited the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) facility. She was accompanied by the Director General of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The visit aimed to review ongoing digital and AI-driven innovations in agriculture and land management. DG LIMS Maj Gen Muhammad Ayub Ahsan and Dr Col Waqar briefed the delegation on LIMS’s critical role in food security. The system currently supports over 2 million farmers with advanced agri-tech advisory services.
A highlight of the visit was a live demonstration of Agri Stack, a digital ecosystem and e-commerce platform developed by LIMS under the Ministry of IT. The Minister praised Agri Stack, calling it a revolutionary step for Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
The system includes automated pest attack mitigation, notably addressing the 2023 whitefly outbreak, which saved farmers more than Rs. 5 billion. Other initiatives discussed included the Pak Sar Zameen Card, a smart GIS/RS-based tool that helps farmers access land records, subsidies, and advisory services efficiently.
The delegation also focused on branding Pakistani agricultural exports and exploring job creation for youth through tech-driven agriculture. Plans include smartphone distribution, improved connectivity, AI-based crop yield forecasting, and a central agri-tech platform managed by LIMS.
To ensure smooth development, a proposal for a steering group to guide LIMS’s expansion was put forward. Both the Minister and DG SIFC emphasized a whole-of-government approach to digital transformation in agriculture, with strong leadership from SIFC and Pakistan’s Armed Forces.
Minister Khawaja stressed the importance of making LIMS accessible via smartphones to provide real-time data, location tracking, and better land record management. She highlighted digital integration as vital to modernize land governance and make services transparent and user-friendly. Mobile access will empower farmers and stakeholders to efficiently use land-related services anytime, anywhere.
In conclusion, the visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tech-enabled, sustainable growth in agriculture and environmental management. The advanced digital tools under LIMS promise to boost productivity, safeguard livelihoods, and strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global agri-market.
