Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will arrive in Islamabad on Saturday for his first official visit to Pakistan, the Foreign Office confirmed on Friday. He is visiting the country on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two-day visit will include meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with delegation-level discussions to enhance bilateral ties.
President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and other top officials. According to the Foreign Office, the visit is aimed at further strengthening brotherly relations between Iran and Pakistan. Notably, this is the second visit by an Iranian president to Pakistan in less than two years, reflecting the growing momentum in bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, both countries are expected to explore new ways to boost trade and border cooperation. Currently, trade between Pakistan and Iran stands at around $3 billion. However, both governments aim to raise this figure in the coming months. Discussions will also touch upon regional security, religious ties, and cultural exchange, showing a broader commitment to long-term collaboration.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Iran in May 2025, where he met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Pezeshkian. Those meetings focused on expanding trade, promoting peace in the region, and improving transport connectivity. At the time, Pakistan appreciated Iran’s diplomatic support during the tensions with India.
Moreover, Mehdi Sanai, a political adviser to the Iranian president, revealed that Dr. Pezeshkian will also meet cultural and business leaders during his stay. These engagements aim to deepen cooperation across political, economic, and cultural fields. Both sides are also expected to reaffirm their stance on regional conflicts, especially in Gaza.
The Iranian president had originally planned this trip for the last week of July, but it was rescheduled. Previously, former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi visited Pakistan in April 2024, just a month before his tragic death in a helicopter crash. Pezeshkian also visited Pakistan in May 2024 to attend Raisi’s memorial, indicating his ongoing interest in strengthening bilateral ties.
