Pakistan gears up for T20 tri-series in Sharjah

Published on: August 1, 2025 12:55 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the full schedule for the upcoming T20I tri-series featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates. Set to begin on August 29, 2025, all matches will be held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium under floodlights. This series will serve as a key preparation event ahead of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup, starting just two days after the tri-series ends.

The tournament follows a round-robin format, where each team will face the others twice before the top two teams advance to the final on September 7. The opening match will see Pakistan taking on Afghanistan. Pakistan will also face UAE on August 30 and September 4, while the other group matches continue until September 5.

Initially, Pakistan had planned a bilateral series with Afghanistan. However, PCB proposed a tri-series in UAE to help players adapt to similar conditions they’ll face in the Asia Cup. This change is expected to provide valuable match experience before the major continental event.

As the Asia Cup looms, Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside India, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong. The Asia Cup is scheduled from September 9 to 28 and will also be played in the T20 format. Pakistan’s campaign will begin on September 12, followed by a much-awaited clash with India on September 14.

All tri-series matches will start at 7:00 PM local time in Sharjah, creating prime-time action for cricket fans across the region. With back-to-back competitions lined up, players will look to gain momentum and fine-tune their strategies ahead of Asia’s biggest T20 showdown.
