Three dead, three injured in KP roof collapses amid rains

Published on: July 31, 2025 12:41 PM

At least three people lost their lives and three others were injured in separate roof collapse incidents across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as heavy monsoon rains continue to batter the region, rescue officials confirmed on Thursday. The deadly incidents occurred in Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Tank districts, all triggered by persistent downpours that have caused widespread damage across northern Pakistan.

In the most fatal incident, a house roof collapsed in Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat, killing three members of a family. Rescue 1122 officials reported that the victims included two women and a 15-year-old boy. Their bodies were recovered from the debris and shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The collapse occurred during heavy rainfall, which has weakened many mud-built and poorly maintained structures.

In Bannu’s Faqirabad Chowk area, a man and a young boy were injured when the roof of their home caved in. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and administered first aid before moving the injured to a nearby hospital. According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Ikram Wazir, all teams are on alert to handle emergencies caused by ongoing weather conditions.

Meanwhile, in Tank district, a 35-year-old man sustained serious injuries in another roof collapse caused by the relentless rain. He was transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Officials have warned that more such incidents are likely if weather conditions persist and structural vulnerabilities remain unaddressed.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had warned of heavy downpours in KP from July 27 to 31. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) urged district administrations to take preventive measures. Weak structures, especially mud houses, are particularly at risk of collapse during intense rains, windstorms, and lightning strikes.

Monsoon-related disasters have affected other regions as well. On July 29, flash floods in Naran (Mansehra) forced the evacuation of 160 stranded tourists. Just days earlier, 250 travelers were rescued from Babusar Highway. The national monsoon death toll has now climbed to 234 since late June, nearly half of whom were children, according to the National Disaster Management Authority.
