U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly criticized India’s economy, calling it “dead” in a recent social media post. He made these remarks on his platform, Truth Social, while commenting on India’s growing ties with Russia. Trump said he does not care what India does with Russia. According to him, both countries can drag their weak economies down together. He emphasized that the issue does not concern him.
Trump also attacked India’s trade policies, calling its tariffs the highest in the world. He said the U.S. has done very little business with India. However, he stressed that India imposes unfair duties on American goods. Trump criticized these tariffs as harmful to fair trade. He suggested India benefits more from trade than the U.S. does.

In contrast, Trump announced a new trade deal with Pakistan just a day earlier. He said the agreement was successfully completed. The deal includes steps to help Pakistan increase its oil reserves. Trump praised the progress as a win for U.S.-Pakistan relations. He did not mention any specific terms of the agreement.
Furthermore, Trump compared India’s trade situation to that of Russia. He stated that U.S.-Russia trade is nearly non-existent. He used this comparison to highlight the lack of meaningful business with both nations. Trump again pointed to high tariffs and unfair practices. He stressed that the U.S. must protect its own economic interests.
This is not the first time Trump has targeted India over trade. Previously, he threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Indian imports. He also warned of additional penalties. His recent remarks indicate ongoing frustration with India’s trade policies. As tensions rise, the future of U.S.-India trade relations remains uncertain.
