The Government of Pakistan is all set to launch its first-ever National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, with formal approval expected from the federal cabinet today. This ambitious move aims to make Pakistan a key player in AI and emerging technologies, with a bold target of training 1 million individuals in AI skills across the country.
The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication has already submitted the detailed policy draft to the cabinet. Once approved, the policy will be immediately enforced. The strategy outlines the training of 10,000 specialized AI trainers, along with building capacity in AI development, ethical use, and applications in both the public and private sectors.
To support this transformation, the draft policy includes the creation of a dedicated scholarship fund, providing 3,000 AI scholarships annually by the year 2028. In addition, the plan calls for 200,000 AI certifications and 15,000 interest-free loans every year to encourage startups, research, and innovation in AI-driven fields.
Moreover, a National Artificial Intelligence Fund will be established to provide long-term financial support for research, education, and industrial AI projects. The government also plans to set up a Center of Excellence in AI and Allied Technologies, which will serve as a hub for training, innovation, and collaboration among universities, industry, and government bodies.
To ensure smooth execution, the policy proposes the formation of specialized working groups and an implementation cell under the Ministry of IT. These bodies will monitor progress, suggest improvements, and align efforts with international AI standards. Officials say the policy will not only boost digital skills but also create new job opportunities, drive economic growth, and help Pakistan join the global AI race.
