The Pakistan cricket team began full training in the United States on Monday as preparations ramp up for their T20I series against the West Indies. The squad, led by stand-in captain Salman Ali Agha, trained at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Florida, the venue for all three T20Is starting July 31.
The practice session lasted over three hours and included high-intensity fielding drills, net batting sessions, and bowling routines. Head coach Mike Hesson, along with support staff, closely monitored players’ fitness and skill execution. Emphasis was placed on adapting to the hot, humid Lauderhill conditions and refining power-hitting techniques for the shorter format.
This tour marks Pakistan’s return to the U.S. for an international series after several years, and the players are eager to perform in front of the American crowds. The squad features a mix of youth and experience, including left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi and hard-hitting batters like Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman. Following the T20Is, the team will travel to Trinidad & Tobago for a three-match ODI series, where Mohammad Rizwan will captain a slightly expanded squad.
The T20I series is crucial for Pakistan’s white-ball momentum, especially after their recent 2-1 loss to Bangladesh. However, the team earlier swept Bangladesh 3-0 at home in May, showing signs of improvement under Hesson’s leadership. The upcoming matches in Florida are expected to test their depth and bench strength, with young players like Hasan Nawaz and Sufyan Moqim getting valuable exposure.
Pakistan’s opening T20I is scheduled for July 31, followed by matches on August 2 and 3. The ODI leg begins August 8. With packed stands expected in Florida, the team hopes to kick off the tour with a strong showing and regain winning form on the global stage.
