A Russian airstrike on Kyiv early Monday injured eight people, including a three-year-old child, Ukrainian officials said. The attack struck a residential building in the Darnytskyi district shortly after midnight. Four people were taken to the hospital, with one in serious condition. The blast damaged windows on the upper floors of the building.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that all the victims lived in the multi-storey apartment complex. He said the explosion shattered windows between the 6th and 11th floors. Authorities shared updates on Telegram as emergency teams responded to the scene. This attack is part of a growing number of night strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
During the assault, air raid sirens sounded across Kyiv and much of Ukraine. The country’s air force warned of missile and drone attacks, prompting widespread alerts. In response to the threat, Poland scrambled jets to monitor its airspace, especially near its eastern border with Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the city of Kropyvnytskyi in central Ukraine also came under fire. Governor Andriy Raikovych said emergency services were working at the site. He added that more details about the damage would be released later. Reuters reporters in Kyiv heard loud explosions, likely from air defense systems at work.
Russia has not commented on the strike. Both Ukraine and Russia deny targeting civilians, but thousands have died since the war began in February 2022. Most of the casualties have been Ukrainian civilians, many killed during nighttime attacks on residential areas.
