The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of another strong spell of monsoon rains starting Monday. Weak monsoon currents are expected to grow stronger across the country. A westerly wave will also arrive by July 29, increasing rainfall chances. Rain with wind and thunderstorms is expected in many areas. These include Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and parts of Sindh.
From July 27 to 31, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may see rain with heavy downpours in some areas. Rainfall is likely in Chitral, Swat, Dir, Peshawar, and Dera Ismail Khan from July 28 to 31. Islamabad, Lahore, and Rawalpindi are also expected to get heavy rain during this period. Southern Punjab cities like Multan, DG Khan, and Bahawalpur will get showers from July 29 to 31. Parts of Balochistan and Sindh may receive rain toward the end of the month.
As a result, the PMD has issued flood warnings for many areas. Heavy rain may trigger flash floods in hilly streams and local nullahs. Urban flooding could hit low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Sialkot. Landslides may block roads in Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and parts of KP. These risks will increase between July 29 and 31.
The Met Office also warned about damage to weak buildings and structures. Heavy wind, lightning, and rain may affect kacha houses, billboards, electric poles, and solar panels. Travelers and tourists should avoid dangerous routes and stay updated on local weather reports. It also urged people to stay away from flood-prone areas.
All local authorities have been told to stay alert and prepare for emergencies. The PMD has asked officials to take action to reduce the risk of disaster. People are advised to act carefully, follow safety advice, and help others stay informed. The situation could change quickly, so public cooperation will be key in the coming days.
