Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Nabi Memon said the police are prioritizing targeting major drug dealers and suppliers to break their supply chains. The IG explained that officers have been tasked with arresting key criminals involved in drug trafficking.
Out of 137 high-profile suspects, 37 have already been arrested in connection with drug crimes. The IG stressed that effective intelligence gathering and improved border mechanisms are essential to stop drug smuggling in the province.
He added that a strict new law has been enacted in Sindh to combat drugs. The police are working closely with the Excise Department and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for enforcement. Alongside enforcement, reducing demand for drugs will have a positive long-term effect.
The IG also highlighted that the police are taking strong action to prevent drug use in educational institutions. Parents and school administrations have a key role in recognizing changes in children’s behavior and reporting suspicious activity. Schools must also report any cases of drug supply to students for timely intervention.
He revealed that drug supply through online platforms and courier services has been identified, and the police are developing strategies to tackle this issue. The IG emphasized the importance of cooperation between parents, educational institutions, and the media in the fight against drugs.
