In a move hailed as life-saving, the South Punjab Secretariat has launched a region-wide CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training campaign across educational and public institutions.
Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani said that timely CPR intervention in cases of cardiac arrest, drowning, or electric shock could make the difference between life and death. “Every person should be equipped with CPR training to ensure help is available at the critical moment,” he said while meeting District Emergency Officer Dr Hussain Ahmad Mian in Multan.
The meeting focused on improving first aid preparedness across the region. Referring to a recent incident in Lahore where a teacher collapsed and died from cardiac arrest during a lecture, Mr Rabbani called it a sobering reminder of the lack of basic emergency response training. He said the administration had taken this incident as a wake-up call.
As part of the new initiative, CPR training will be rolled out in collaboration with Rescue 1122. In the first phase, the programme will target schools, colleges, and universities, before expanding to offices and other public and private institutions.
Dr Hussain Ahmad Mian welcomed the decision, calling it a timely and much-needed step. “CPR training can restore breathing and pulse in an emergency. It’s a skill every citizen should know,” he said.
On the occasion, officers and staff of the South Punjab Secretariat also received hands-on CPR training from Rescue 1122 officials.
