India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj expects Jasprit Bumrah to play in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. Bumrah, the world’s top Test bowler, has played only two matches so far in the five-match series. India lost both games at Headingley and Lord’s, falling behind 2-1 in the series. Due to Bumrah’s back injury, he was expected to be rested in some games. However, Siraj said on Monday, “So far, we only know that Jassi (Bumrah) will play.”
India face injury issues in their squad as they head into the crucial fourth match on Wednesday. Nitish Kumar Reddy is ruled out of the last two Tests due to a knee injury. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is also uncertain after hurting his finger last week. Moreover, fast bowler Akash Deep may miss the match with a groin injury. With limited pace options, Bumrah’s inclusion becomes even more likely. India must reshuffle their team again to stay alive in the series.
The third Test at Lord’s ended in heartbreak for India as they lost by just 22 runs. Siraj was the final wicket to fall after playing 30 balls. He dragged Shoaib Bashir’s delivery onto his stumps and fell to his knees in frustration. Despite the defeat, India’s lower-order showed strong resistance. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61 runs, while Bumrah and Reddy also lasted over 50 balls.
Siraj admitted the loss was tough to accept, especially since the match felt winnable. “It took a long time to get over,” he said. He praised the team’s fight and said their effort kept India in the match. “At one point it looked like we’d lose by 80 runs, but we made it close,” Siraj explained. Their late resistance brought the target within reach and gave hope for the remaining matches.
Looking ahead, India must win the fourth Test to level the series before heading to The Oval. Bumrah’s return could give their bowling attack a major boost. Siraj said the team is still motivated despite the narrow defeat. “It’s 2-1 now, not over yet,” he added. India now look to bounce back and keep their series hopes alive in Manchester.
