Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit the United States next week to participate in important United Nations Security Council (UNSC) events and other official meetings in Washington, the Foreign Office announced on Saturday. Pakistan, currently serving its eighth term on the UNSC, assumed the presidency earlier this month, marking its first presidency since 2013.
Dar is scheduled to attend at least four high-profile UNSC-related events in New York, including chairing open debates focused on international peace, security, and the Middle East situation. One major conference he will attend is on the peaceful settlement of the Palestine question and implementing the two-state solution, postponed earlier due to the Iran-Israel conflict.
During his visit, Dar will also preside over a briefing aimed at strengthening cooperation between the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). His meetings underscore Pakistan’s active role in promoting multilateral diplomacy and peace efforts at the global level. He is expected to hold several bilateral discussions with UN officials and foreign counterparts.
The Foreign Office highlighted that Dar’s trip reflects Pakistan’s growing influence in international affairs and its expanding ties with the United States. His visit comes amid ongoing trade negotiations between the two countries, following recent high-level meetings including a White House visit by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff.
Pakistan has consistently voiced strong support for Palestine at the UNSC and recently urged the Council to take urgent action to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to halt the violence and suffering in the region.
