A motorcyclist lost his life on Friday morning after a speeding truck struck him in Karachi’s Saudabad area, triggering anger among bystanders who attacked the driver and set the truck on fire. The accident took place near Malir’s RCD Ground when the truck carrying cement bags hit 59-year-old Baqar Saeed, a local milk delivery worker, killing him instantly.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was moving recklessly at high speed from Kala Board, and many claimed the driver appeared intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. The driver tried to escape the scene but was caught and beaten by locals before police arrived and took him into custody. Furious residents then set the truck ablaze.
The victim’s motorcycle was completely destroyed in the collision, while the injured driver, identified as Waris, was rushed to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment. Police used a crane to remove the burnt vehicle and restore traffic flow in the area. Authorities have launched an investigation and vowed to take legal action against the driver.
This tragic incident adds to the growing number of fatal road accidents in Karachi this year. Earlier, a motorcyclist named Tanveer died after being hit by a water tanker in Saadi Town. In that case, the tanker driver fled immediately, and police are still searching for the suspect.
Officials have raised concerns over the sharp rise in traffic-related deaths across the city and stress the urgent need for stricter traffic law enforcement. They urge drivers to maintain caution and responsibility to prevent such tragic losses.
Police continue to investigate both cases and have assured the public that they will hold those responsible accountable. Karachi’s residents remain on edge as road safety issues continue to claim innocent lives.
