The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert, warning of intense rainfall across multiple regions in the next 24 to 48 hours. The authority has urged citizens—especially those in low-lying and flood-prone areas—to remain prepared and cooperate with emergency teams if evacuation becomes necessary.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, Rawalpindi and Islamabad are expected to experience intermittent heavy rain during the next two days. This may cause flooding in Nullah Lai and surrounding low-lying areas. Residents near the stream have been asked to stay alert and evacuate immediately if flood sirens sound. The NDMA stressed that all related agencies are on high alert and taking proactive measures to ensure public safety.
The spokesperson also warned of severe rainfall in several other Punjab districts, including Lahore, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Hafizabad. These areas may face urban flooding and flash floods in streams and rivers, especially in case of continuous downpours.
In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, recent torrential rains have already caused streams to overflow, vehicles to be swept away, and homes to flood. Authorities have issued evacuation warnings for people living near Nullah Lai and other natural waterways.
NDMA has once again appealed to citizens to follow safety guidelines, stay away from overflowing drains, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains. Local administrations are on standby, and emergency teams are working round the clock to respond swiftly to any worsening situation.
