ISLAMABAD – July 10, 2025: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has firmly rejected widespread speculation about President Asif Ali Zardari stepping down or Army Chief General Asim Munir aiming to become the next President of Pakistan.
In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), Naqvi criticized the rumor campaign targeting the country’s top leadership. He said this narrative is being deliberately pushed to create instability. “We know exactly who is behind this, why they’re doing it, and who stands to benefit,” he said, hinting at both internal and external actors fueling the misinformation.
We are fully aware of who is behind the malicious campaign targeting President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and the Chief of Army Staff. I have categorically stated that there has been no discussion, nor does any such idea exist, about the President being asked…

Naqvi made it clear that no talks have taken place regarding the resignation of President Zardari. He also emphasized that there is no truth to claims about the Army Chief aspiring to assume the presidential role. “There is no such thinking, no such discussion, and no such intention,” he stressed.
He further explained that the relationship between the President and military leadership remains strong, professional, and respectful. According to Naqvi, General Munir is fully focused on ensuring Pakistan’s strength, stability, and strategic security, not political office.
Addressing those who are allegedly involved in spreading this narrative, the interior minister said, “Those promoting such falsehoods—whether on their own or backed by hostile agencies—should know that we are prepared. We will take every step necessary to protect Pakistan’s stability and democratic institutions.”
