The Sindh government approved a Rs10.56 billion interest-free loan for a water supply project to serve Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The decision was made in a provincial cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The project will build a 36-kilometre pipeline from Dumlottee to DHA along with a pumping station, forebay, and filtration plant. Officials expect the project to finish within 11 months.
Along with the water project, the cabinet increased flood relief funds from Rs21.56 billion to Rs27.67 billion. This money will help over 150,000 farmers affected by 2022 floods. The government also approved signing an MoU with Sindh Bank to implement the Benazir Hari Card program. This program provides subsidies, soft loans, and financial support to farmers during disasters.
The cabinet also approved Rs45 billion for a railway line to transport coal from the Thar coalfield to Port Qasim. This new 105-kilometre rail link will include a coal terminal and help boost energy supply in the region. Federal funds will support part of this project, which is part of Sindh’s growing infrastructure plans.
In other decisions, the cabinet removed the need for physical e-stamp papers where digital registration is active. This step will speed up property transactions. The Sindh Agricultural Income Tax Rules, 2025 were also approved, requiring farmers to register and file tax returns digitally. The rules allow disaster losses to be carried forward.
Finally, the cabinet greenlit industrial enclaves covering 951 acres in Hyderabad. The project, supported by public-private partnership, aims to create over 55,000 jobs. The government also approved land allotment for the M-6 Motorway and other development projects. The session covered 52 agenda items, with most approved for quick action.
