Sweden has resumed its visa services in Islamabad, the Foreign Office announced on Monday. Starting July 7, 2025, Pakistani nationals can apply for Schengen visas locally to visit Sweden for up to 90 days. This step ends a two-year halt that began in April 2023 when Sweden closed its embassy in Islamabad over security concerns.
The embassy had fully reopened earlier this year in April. However, visa services only restarted after recent talks between the Swedish and Pakistani foreign ministries. These bilateral discussions took place in Stockholm on July 2. During the meeting, Sweden confirmed its decision to resume visa processing in Pakistan.

The Foreign Office welcomed the development, calling it a positive sign for the growing ties between both countries. The Pakistani delegation was led by the Additional Foreign Secretary for Europe. The Swedish side was represented by the Director General for Global Affairs.
Previously, embassy closure meant no visa requests or document deliveries could be handled in Pakistan. Sweden had prioritized safety for its staff and applicants. This reopening now restores easier access to Swedish visas for Pakistani travelers.
Overall, this move reflects improving relations between Pakistan and Sweden. It also makes travel simpler for Pakistani citizens visiting Sweden. Many hope this positive trend continues with more cooperation in the future.
