Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has called for international accountability for Israel and the United States following recent airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Speaking at the BRICS summit in Brazil, Araqchi warned that failure to hold Israel responsible could destabilize not just the region, but the entire world.
According to Iran’s state-run Press TV and a report by Al Jazeera, Araqchi accused both the US and Israel of violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231. The resolution had endorsed the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, confirming the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. He said the joint attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure prove full US involvement in Israel’s aggression.
The foreign minister emphasized that these attacks were not just military operations but direct violations of international law. He claimed that the U.S. role leaves no doubt about its complicity in Israel’s efforts to target Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites.
During Sunday’s session of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Iran received support from several “BRICS Plus” members. The group condemned the recent airstrikes that reportedly targeted military, nuclear, and civilian sites in Iran. Although the summit’s final statement did not explicitly name the U.S. or Israel, it strongly criticized the attacks as breaches of international law.
The declaration marks a diplomatic win for Tehran, which has struggled to gain global support following 12 days of Israeli air raids. These raids came after U.S.-backed Israeli strikes hit key nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. The BRICS statement expressed deep concern over intentional attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities, adding weight to Iran’s call for international justice.
