Balochistan govt to launch ‘People’s Train’ in Quetta for comfortable travel

QUETTA – Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced a new transport initiative for Quetta’s residents, promising the launch of the “People’s Train” to provide affordable and comfortable travel across the city.

The train service will run throughout the day from Kuchlak to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, making daily commutes easier for locals. CM Bugti called it a “big relief” for the people of Quetta and a step toward better urban connectivity.

This announcement comes years after a similar project was scrapped. In 2017, a mass transit train system was proposed under the former Balochistan government with Chinese cooperation. However, due to its high cost of Rs. 25 billion, the project was dropped in 2020.

Now, the government has revived the vision with a more feasible plan. In collaboration with Pakistan Railways and the Department of Transport, efforts are underway to make the People’s Train operational soon.

Citizens have warmly welcomed the move, calling it a much-needed step. “It will make travel easier for poor people and improve transport access across the city,” said one Quetta resident.

The project signals a shift toward practical, people-focused infrastructure in the region. Residents now eagerly await the launch of this public-friendly train service that promises comfort and affordability.
