Fitness woes hit Pakistan team ahead of Bangladesh tour

Published on: July 2, 2025 12:53 PM

The Pakistan national cricket team is facing serious fitness concerns just days before their upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Key players, including vice-captain Shadab Khan and fast bowlers Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim Jr., are reportedly not fully fit. This has raised questions about their availability for the T20 series starting later this month.

In light of these concerns, team selectors are considering fresh additions to the squad. According to sources, Lahore Qalandars’ left-arm pacer Salman Mirza and left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem are likely to be included as replacements if needed. Their performances in domestic cricket have impressed selectors and could offer valuable support during the tour.

Meanwhile, preparations for the tour will officially begin soon. The national training camp is scheduled to start on July 8 at the National Stadium in Karachi. Coaches and trainers are expected to closely monitor players’ fitness and form during the camp to finalize the touring squad.

The Pakistan team is set to depart for Bangladesh on July 16. They will face the hosts in a three-match T20I series, beginning on July 20. These matches are crucial for Pakistan’s preparations ahead of upcoming international tournaments.

While the team faces uncertainty due to injuries, management remains hopeful that some key players will recover in time. However, if the fitness issues persist, the inclusion of young talent could provide much-needed depth and fresh energy to the side.

This unexpected situation has added pressure on both the coaching staff and the selection committee. Still, with a strong talent pool and a well-structured training plan, Pakistan aims to overcome these setbacks and deliver a solid performance in Bangladesh.
