Two high-profile fugitives arrested in Spain following Pakistan’s diplomatic push

ISLAMABAD – Two dangerous suspects wanted by Pakistan have been arrested in Spain after persistent diplomatic efforts by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in tracking down long-time absconders.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the suspects Nawazish Ali Hanjra and Haroon Iqbal were detained based on Interpol Red Notices. Hanjra faces charges in 23 cases including terrorism, murder, and kidnapping, while Iqbal is wanted in a separate case.

Talal Chaudhry recently met with Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska during his visit to Spain. He demanded swift arrests and extraditions of wanted individuals hiding in the country through Interpol cooperation.

Following the meeting, the Spanish Interior Minister issued directives to the authorities, which led to the prompt arrest of these fugitives. The Ministry confirmed that legal procedures are underway to hand over the suspects to Pakistan.

Pakistan has been actively requesting the arrest and extradition of 38 individuals wanted in various serious cases for several years. This progress gives hope that more absconders will soon be brought to justice.

Talal Chaudhry thanked the Spanish Interior Minister for the cooperation and expressed optimism that the remaining fugitives in Spain will also be arrested and returned to Pakistan shortly.
