LAHORE – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has released detailed statistics on the damages caused by recent monsoon rains across the province. The report also includes updates on water levels in rivers, dams, and barrages.
According to PDMA, 18 people have lost their lives during this year’s monsoon season. Most of the deaths occurred due to the collapse of weak roofs, old structures, and mud houses during heavy rains.
Director General of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, assured that the government will provide financial support to the affected families. He added that the first spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until July 1, but water flow in rivers and barrages currently remains at a normal level.
Despite this, authorities are on high alert. DG Kathia said all necessary preparations have been completed in case of any flood risk. Urban flooding remains a serious concern in major cities including Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala.
In addition, the PDMA has strictly banned swimming in rivers, canals, and rainwater drains due to safety concerns. The warning is part of ongoing efforts to reduce further loss of life during the monsoon period.
PDMA continues to monitor the situation closely and urges citizens to avoid risky areas and follow safety guidelines. The public is also encouraged to report emergencies to the helpline so timely assistance can be provided.
