Aleema Khan’s grip on PTI’s social media fuels internal rifts

Published on: June 25, 2025 4:10 PM

Aleema Khan, sister of imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan, has reportedly gained powerful control over the party’s social media, influencing not just online narratives but also major political decisions. According to insiders, her growing role has deepened internal divisions and derailed key dialogue efforts with the government.

Party sources claim that Aleema, along with an unelected PTI leader, has sidelined elected figures such as Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. PTI’s official and unofficial social media accounts have openly criticized both leaders, calling them “traitors” for allegedly straying from Imran Khan’s firm stance.

Furthermore, Aleema is said to have influenced Imran Khan by warning him that others were trying to take control of the party. This messaging reportedly led him to reject a possible political dialogue, even after initial signals of willingness shared by party leadership. CM Gandapur had reportedly received approval from key quarters to begin talks with the government, but Aleema’s objections halted the process.

This is not the first time close family members have influenced key decisions. In November last year, Bushra Bibi allegedly derailed a potential political breakthrough by insisting on a protest march to D-Chowk, which triggered violence and damaged PTI’s image at a crucial time.

Tensions also flared recently when Gandapur presented KP’s budget without Imran Khan’s approval. According to party insiders, Aleema and her allies opposed the move and demanded it be cleared by Khan, who remains in jail. When this didn’t happen, PTI’s social media accused Gandapur of working on a “minus Imran” agenda.

Despite these reports, Aleema Khan has denied having any political ambitions or running the party’s digital campaigns. She maintains that her only focus is supporting her brother as a loyal family member. However, insiders warn that continued involvement of unelected individuals may harm the party’s unity and hinder its future political progress.
