BEIJING – In a significant diplomatic development, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a high-level meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to Beijing. The meeting focused on ongoing tensions along the disputed border and the broader strategic relationship between the two Asian giants.
According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Li Jian, the dialogue emphasized the need for mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful resolution of long-standing border disputes. The two sides discussed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where both countries have maintained a tense military standoff since the violent clashes in Galwan Valley in 2020.
China urged that both nations, being ancient civilizations with deep historical wisdom, should set an example of maturity by handling disagreements calmly. “There is no threat between China and India,” said Li Jian, “and both sides must act with prudence to protect regional stability.”
The Chinese side called for sensitive matters to be handled properly and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in the border regions. Beijing reaffirmed its position that both countries are partners in development, not rivals in conflict.
Doval’s visit is part of a broader effort to restart high-level communications and manage friction points through diplomatic and military channels. While no breakthrough was announced, the tone of the meeting was seen as measured and constructive, signaling both sides’ desire to avoid escalation and strengthen confidence-building measures.
