Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by launching missile attacks and ordered the Israeli military to respond strongly. However, Tehran denied these allegations of ceasefire violations.
According to Reuters, Israel Katz claimed that Iran fired missiles at Israel despite the ceasefire announced by the US President. He said he directed Israeli forces to target Iranian government assets and terror infrastructure in Tehran with strong actions.
The Israeli military reported that two missiles were fired from Iran, triggering sirens in northern Israel. An Israeli official, speaking anonymously to AFP, confirmed that the missiles were intercepted and prevented from causing damage.
Following the sirens, civilians were allowed to leave shelters after about 15 minutes. Earlier, Israel had stated that the ceasefire was in effect since all objectives of its air campaign against Iran, launched on June 13, had been achieved.
Meanwhile, Iran’s news agency, ISNA, called reports of missile attacks after the ceasefire false. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had said Iran would stop retaliatory strikes starting 4 a.m. Tehran time if Israel ceased its bombings.
Despite these statements, Israel’s military warned its citizens that the threat remains. Brigadier General Effi Dufrin, during a televised press briefing, said the Chief of Staff ordered the entire military to stay alert and ready for a strong response if the ceasefire is broken again.
He added that there have been no changes to the Home Front Command’s instructions, which must be followed strictly, emphasizing that the danger is still present.
