PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to approve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 in an effort to protect its provincial government from potential federal intervention.
The decision came during a PTI parliamentary party meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House on Sunday. Key party figures including Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, central spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram, and provincial general secretary Ali Asghar Khan attended the session.
All participating members agreed to approve the budget. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, while addressing the meeting, claimed that the federal government intended to use the provincial budget as a pretext to declare an economic emergency in the province and topple the PTI-led setup.
Gandapur emphasized that passing the budget would help block any such conspiracy. He added that efforts were underway to arrange a meeting with PTI’s founding leader to discuss possible amendments to the budget after its approval.
Moreover, party leaders stressed the importance of unity and swift action during this critical phase, stating that political stability in KP was vital not only for the province but for the entire country.
This development highlights PTI’s strategy to maintain control over the provincial government while navigating mounting political pressure and economic challenges.
