Heavy rains claim six lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PDMA issues emergency alert

PESHAWAR – At least six people lost their lives and five others were injured in various rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday.

The incidents occurred in multiple districts, including Mansehra, Buner, Lower and Upper Dir, Kohistan, and Malakand. Torrential rains, lightning, and strong winds have wreaked havoc in these areas since Friday, leading to tragic loss of life and property damage.

The PDMA report revealed that seven houses were affected during the recent spell of extreme weather. While five houses were partially damaged, two were completely destroyed, leaving several families displaced and in urgent need of shelter.

In response, PDMA has directed the local administrations to provide immediate relief and ensure the best medical facilities for those injured. Rescue teams have been mobilized, and assessments are ongoing in the affected areas.

Furthermore, PDMA confirmed that its Emergency Operations Center is fully active. Citizens are encouraged to report any emergencies or damages by contacting the helpline at 1700 for timely assistance.

As the weather system continues to affect parts of the province, officials are urging residents to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas, and cooperate with rescue and relief teams.
