Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the recent US attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites, accusing President Donald Trump of deceiving not only Iran but also his own nation. Speaking at a press briefing in Istanbul, Araghchi described the strikes as a clear violation of international law.
He stated that the United States, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has severely damaged global peace. “President Trump was elected on the promise of avoiding wars, especially in the Middle East, yet he has led the region into deeper conflict,” Araghchi said.
Reaffirming Tehran’s stance, Araghchi stressed that Iran will continue to defend its sovereignty and people. He reminded the international community that the attack took place during ongoing diplomatic efforts, effectively “murdering diplomacy.”
Calling for global action, the Iranian foreign minister demanded an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council. He emphasized that Iran has the legal right under the UN Charter to respond to such aggression.
Araghchi also criticized the basis of the attack, saying, “Iran did nothing wrong, yet we were attacked on false claims.” He urged world leaders to condemn the US actions and not allow fabricated accusations to justify war.
Furthermore, Araghchi revealed plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for serious consultations. He noted that Iran and China were preparing a joint ceasefire resolution at the UN before the situation changed. “Now we must reassess our next steps in this new reality,” he concluded.
