Two policemen martyred in Swabi attack; PM Shehbaz Sharif condemns ‘cowardly act’

SWABI (June 21, 2025): Two police personnel were martyred in a targeted gun attack on Friday evening while they were dining at a local hotel in the jurisdiction of the IDPS police station in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The victims were identified as Constable Jamaluddin and Zahid, who served as a police driver. According to initial reports, the attackers opened fire at close range and fled the scene before police reinforcements could arrive. Police officials have launched a full-scale investigation, and search operations are underway to trace the assailants.

Witnesses reported panic at the hotel as gunfire erupted. Security in the area has been heightened, and nearby entry and exit points have been sealed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He hailed the officers as “brave sons of the soil” and praised their sacrifice in the line of duty.

The premier also instructed the Inspector General of Police and interior authorities to submit a detailed report and ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of the culprits. He reiterated that the government stands firmly with the law enforcement agencies in their fight against terrorism.

This tragic incident highlights the persistent threat faced by police and security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a region that has seen a resurgence in militant activity in recent months.
