The conflict between Iran and Israel reached a dangerous new level on Saturday as both countries exchanged more missile strikes. An Iranian missile hit a building in central Israel, sparking a fire in Holon near Tel Aviv. Emergency teams responded quickly. Luckily, no one was physically hurt, though several people were treated for shock. Israel said it shot down most missiles, but damage still occurred. Sirens rang out across cities, warning residents to take cover.
Meanwhile, Israel confirmed it killed Saeed Izadi, a senior Iranian commander linked to Iran’s Quds Force, in a strike in Qom. Iran has not officially confirmed his death. Israel continues to target Iranian military and nuclear sites, saying its goal is to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons. Iran denies it is making any. In response, Iran launched more missiles at Israel, calling it a defense against Israeli aggression.
In Geneva, peace talks failed again. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran won’t talk while Israel keeps bombing. He criticized Europe for not speaking against Israel’s strikes. At the same time, US President Donald Trump warned that America could get involved. He gave a two-week deadline for a decision. With tensions rising, hundreds of Americans are leaving Iran, though many say the process has been slow and difficult.
Araghchi also traveled to Turkey for an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The group discussed Israel’s recent attacks, which Iran calls unprovoked. Other Muslim countries expressed concern too. Russian and Chinese leaders joined calls for a ceasefire, but no real progress was made. Turkey’s President Erdogan warned the world was nearing a “point of no return.”
Adding to the confusion, US intelligence agencies disagree about how close Iran is to building a nuclear bomb. Some believe it could take Iran three years; others claim it might only take months. Critics say these claims remind them of the Iraq war, where false information led to invasion and chaos. As both sides prepare for more fighting, the hope for peace looks dim.
