Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has landed a record-breaking deal with the Sydney Sixers, making him one of the top-paid players in Big Bash League (BBL) history. The 30-year-old batter signed a pre-draft contract ahead of BBL 15, confirming his debut in the Australian T20 competition.
Sources revealed that Babar’s contract will exceed the Platinum category’s base price, offering him nearly PKR 10 crore—well above the PKR 7.75 crore benchmark. This marks a major milestone in his already impressive cricketing career.
The Sixers used their special right to pre-sign one overseas player before the official BBL draft on June 19 and chose Babar Azam. With over 10,000 international runs, his inclusion adds firepower and stability to the Sixers’ batting line-up for the upcoming season.
Throughout his career, Babar has shown remarkable consistency across all formats. He led Pakistan to the semi-finals of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup and the final in 2022. Known for his calm temperament, he was named ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2022 and ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2021 and 2022.
Babar has already played in several global leagues, including the Pakistan Super League and the Caribbean Premier League. With over 11,000 T20 runs to his name, he brings vast experience and star quality to the BBL stage.
As the 2025 BBL season nears, the Sydney Sixers—featuring stars like Steve Smith and Sean Abbott—are counting on Babar Azam to lead their championship push. Fans across Australia and Pakistan will be eagerly watching his BBL debut unfold.
