Lahore – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) High Performance Director and Selection Committee Member Aaqib Javed said on Monday that no final decision has been made about which players will specialize in white-ball or red-ball cricket. He shared these views during a press briefing at the launch of a Skills Development Camp in Lahore.
He stressed that modern cricketers constantly jump from one tournament to another. Therefore, the PCB wants players to focus on their personal skill development as well. “That’s why we’ve started this camp,” he said. Aaqib added that the first phase includes 60 players and more will be added in the next round. He also revealed plans to shortlist 30 players for the next year’s World Cup.
While discussing training infrastructure, Aaqib said they are upgrading the National Cricket Academy (NCA). New hybrid pitches are being installed to better prepare players for international standards. He promised visible improvements in players’ performance in the coming months.
He also highlighted women’s cricket progress. “We are building a High Performance Center for women in Karachi,” he said. Aaqib noted that club cricket has declined compared to earlier times, but the PCB still wants to support clubs that produce quality cricketers.
Lastly, he said this camp mostly involves white-ball players, but the aim is to identify and groom talent year-round, including from under-17 tournaments. He added that they plan to visit remote areas to set up specialized camps and also focus on improving lost bowling skills like reverse swing and yorkers.
