Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to overseas Pakistanis on the International Day of Family Remittances. He praised their consistent financial support, calling it a vital strength for Pakistan’s economy. He emphasized that the dedication and sacrifices of millions of expatriates are deeply valued at the national level.
According to the Prime Minister’s statement, remittances for the current fiscal year have reached a record-breaking $34.9 billion. This is a 28.8% increase from last year’s total. In May 2025 alone, workers sent home $3.7 billion, marking a 13.7% rise compared to May 2024. These figures show how actively overseas Pakistanis continue to uplift the economy.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that over 9 million Pakistanis living abroad are emotionally and economically tied to their homeland. Their remittances play a major role in stabilizing the economy, supporting foreign reserves, and helping countless families meet daily needs and invest in education and healthcare.
He further stated that these remittances are not just transactions; they reflect the love, commitment, and responsibility overseas citizens feel toward their country. He appreciated their hard work, often under tough conditions, calling them “unsung heroes of the economy.”
Moreover, the Prime Minister said that the rise in remittances is also proof of growing confidence in Pakistan’s economic direction. He assured overseas Pakistanis that the government will continue to strengthen policies to facilitate banking, transfers, and investment opportunities for the diaspora.
