Israel vows Tehran will ‘pay the price’ after deadly missile strikes on Tel Aviv, Haifa

Published on: June 16, 2025 2:05 PM

Tensions between Israel and Iran have reached a boiling point as Iranian missiles struck Tel Aviv and Haifa early Monday, killing at least eight civilians and injuring over 100 others. In response, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that residents of Tehran would “pay the price, and soon.”

The predawn attacks caused widespread damage across Israeli cities, destroying homes and businesses. Several missiles landed near busy areas, including Tel Aviv’s Shuk HaCarmel market and a school in Bnei Brak. Emergency teams rushed to rescue victims trapped under debris, while fires broke out near Haifa’s port and power plant.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they used a “new method” to bypass Israel’s multi-layered defense systems, successfully striking key urban targets. However, Israeli military officials did not confirm any failure in their interception systems but admitted their defenses aren’t 100% effective.

The death toll in Israel rose to 23 since Friday, all reported as civilians. Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes on Iran have killed at least 224 people, with Iran’s Health Ministry stating that 90% of the victims were civilians. Despite rising casualties, both sides show no signs of backing down.

At the G7 summit in Canada, world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, addressed the crisis. Trump expressed hope for a peace deal but acknowledged the ongoing intensity of the conflict. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the importance of diplomacy while reaffirming Israel’s right to defend itself.

Oil prices saw a modest increase following the conflict escalation, but global financial markets remained largely stable. As military action intensifies, the international community continues to push for de-escalation while bracing for what could become a prolonged and devastating war.
