BERLIN – Germany, France, and Britain have offered to hold immediate talks with Iran about its nuclear program, aiming to reduce the rising tensions in the Middle East, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said.
Wadephul, currently visiting the Middle East, expressed hope that Iran would accept the offer for constructive negotiations. He noted that Tehran missed earlier chances for dialogue but emphasized it is still possible to engage peacefully.
He stressed that these talks are essential to ensure Iran does not pose a threat to the region, Israel, or Europe. Wadephul said cooperation from all sides is needed to stop the violence between Iran and Israel.
Speaking from Oman, the German minister said both sides must seriously try to end the conflict within the next week. He believes that Israel does not intend to topple Iran’s government, aiming instead to manage security concerns.
Wadephul also raised concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. He called on Israel to allow unrestricted aid to Palestinians and urged Hamas to release hostages captured during the October 2023 attacks.
Finally, he highlighted that ending hunger and suffering in Gaza is critical, while holding Hamas responsible for the ongoing conflict. He urged all parties to work towards peace and stability in the region.
